Harlequin Stage School
MISS PAULA DYMOCK - PRINCIPAL
I began my dancing career at the tender age of three, at the Barbara Evans School Of Dance. My passion grew throughout my childhood, and at sixteen, I gained a place at the Doreen Bird College Of Performing Arts. During my course I was awarded the top choreographic award and gained Distinction in all my teaching qualifications. Whilst training, I was also awarded "Outstanding Dancer", however I soon realised that my passion lay in teaching and choreography. I returned to Worcester where I gained valuable teaching experience at my old dance school under the guidance of Barbara Evans. Soon after, " Harlequin" was born. The school has gone from strength to strength in eighteen years, growing from a humble fifty pupils to current numbers of over five hundred dancers. The school has won many prestigious awards, entering and winning the "All England Dance Finals" consistantly throughout the group sections across all age groups. All this culminated in one of the biggest achievements to date; In 2005 at the "All England Finals", I was awarded the very first Joanne Marsden trophy for group choreography and from then on the school has continued to reward me in many ways. I am always proud of my students and I love seeing them develop into confident, professional performers, many of whom return to Harlequin to help teach in my ever growing school. I look forward to the future of the school and to see many more of my wonderful pupils spread their wings and become the talented people that I know they can be.

MISS SARAH THOMPSON
I started dancing at the age of two and a half, I was the little girl who was pushed through the door crying!! However my love for dance dramatically grew. Soon after that, I found I was on the move, and it was definately the best move I have ever made. I started at Harlequin Stage School on the very first day that it opened! At once I was inspired, especially when Miss Paula taught me my first festival dance, "Sing A Song Of Sixpence", a character solo at the age of five. That, then became the beginning of what I will always remember to be a wonderful childhood experience, I always remember how proud I was when I could tell people that I had a wonderful hobby, dancing at Harlequin Stage Schol. What else would any child with a love for dancing wish for? I danced at Harlequin throughout all of my school years, teens into adulthood. After having taken a break to have my daughter, I was priviliged to start teaching at Harlequin. In fact more than that, it is an honour and a pleasure to teach here, as everything I have learnt has come from Paula. She has inspired me to be the teacher that I am. She is truly an inspirational person for which I am eternally grateful.

EDWARD BURY
I originally trained in Worcestershire, and then at the Hammond School Of Ballet, on the classical and teaching course with Principal Gillian Anthony. During this course I gained all major RAD and ISTD exams, along with Anatomy and child development for the STC. After graduation I worked and performed with Paula Hinton Gore on the revival of her husbands' ballet "Eaters Of Darkness". This was followed by a season in Swan Lake with The London City Ballet, and then I moved on to dance in "Cats" and "Chorus Line" in Hamburg and Vienna. Whilst dancing with National Contemporary Of Cyprus, I made the transition into teaching, and in 2002 joined the teaching staff of the Harlequin Stage School and the rest is history, and every week a new challenge.

MISS  LIANNE  RAINBOW
My dancing career started at the age of five, at Harlequin Stage School and Paula was my teacher. From a junior right up to a senior dancer I performed in many shows and festivals including all my grade and major examinations in Ballet, Modern and Tap. My first professional performance was in " A Christmas Carol" at the Birmingham Rep Theatre at the age of eleven. Starting from the age of sixteen, I also helped as a student teacher, where I soaked up every bit of quality teaching from Paula that I possibly could, and also performed on tour with Miss Bonnie, and the  "Back Beat Beatles". After finishing High School,I was accepted on to the  Worcester Technology College's BTEC National Diploma course for Perfofming Arts. After graduating with Honours, I gained a full scholarship at Bird College Of Dance and Theatre Performance, on a three year BA HONS Degree Course . I studied the "Triple Threat"- all aspects of dancing, singing and acting . Whilst at college I worked with top ISTD examiners and completed my final examinations in Modern and Tap at advanced level. I often represented the college in singing in and around London  and I played many roles in the theatre and got the chance to play Sonia, in the hit Broadway Musical "The Life". During my final year at college I took a greater interest in teaching and choreography, being given the fantastic opportunity to teach for Paula. Returning to my roots is a great pleasure and I hope to give all the children at Harlequin the same quality of teaching that I received, and pass on the knowledge that I have learnt. I look forward to great years ahead.

Miss Holly
Like many girls I started ballet at the age of 3, skipping around in my local village hall. At the age of 16 I joined Harlequin, taking my dancing to the next level. During my 2 years at Harlequin I performed in Streets of London 2005 and then Mother Goose 2006. When I was 18 I left Harlequin to train on the Ballet Education degree course at the Royal Academy of Dance. During my 3 years at RAD I acheived my Advanced 1 and 2 as well as gaining a first class honours degree. I also participated in the Licentiate programme so gaining my registered teachers status. Since leaving RAD in 2009 I have taught performing arts in primary schools across Birmingham and have taught in many dance schools across Worcestershire. I am now lucky enough to be back teaching at Harlequin. It is such an honour to be surrounded by such talented people, I am loving every second of it!

MISS JENNY ADCOCK
I started dancing at the age of five, and joined Harlequin Stage School when I was eleven. I have performed in many pantomimes, shows and festivals, but my proudest memory of all, is being one of the original " 5 GUYS", and winning at the All England finals in London. At seventeen I was awarded a scholarship to the Doreen Bird College Of Performing Arts. During my three years there I gained the highest marks in all RAD and ISTD ballet, Modern and Tap eaminations, as well as gaining "Distinction " for both Ballet and Modern teaching exams. After leaving Bird College I was asked to join a contemporary/jazz company "Body Of People" in London. I performed in pantomime with Lilly Savage, in trade shows and music videos and sailed around Hong Kong and Singapore on a cruise liner. In 2001 I auditioned for a musical in Germany called "Tabaluga and Lilli". A month later I flew out to Germany, where, not only was I a dancer in the show but I got to play the lead role "Tabaluga". In 2002 I joined " Spirit Of Dance" where I stayed for two years. We performed all over the world in places like Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and Korea. In 2004 my legs and feet were hurting so much I decided to hang up my dancing shoes!!! Over the last few years I have been teaching Ballet and Modern to various age groups, where my knowledge and experience as a teacher has grown tremendously, resulting in excellent examination grades. Being back at Harlequin Stage School as a teacher means the world to me as this is the place where my dreams began. I hope I can now help others achieve their dreams too.

Miss Tasmin Stewart
Harlequin was like a second home to me. When you are serious about performing & you're doing all the classes available, you are there practically every day after school/college. I always loved walking through the doors, everyone there felt like my family. You don't just get the very best in teaching, you get a real support network, you make friends for life, and you have the most amazing opportunities to be a part of a very very special place.
I have so many magical memories of my time at Harlequin, I have photo albums full to bursting of pictures of all the shows, trips, festivals, exams, parties, summer schools, sleep overs & achievements.

When you're growing up, I feel that it is incredibly important to feel a part of something, to feel valued, to be included & accepted. Harlequin is so much more than you're regular performing arts school, when you enroll here, it will take you on the most incredible journey as a performer & as a person. You will learn so, so, much & it will give you the best possible start you could wish for into the entertainment industry.

I have been working professionally in the industry now for 13 years. I have played many parts in numerous West end shows & International tours. I've done bits & bobs of TV & film & now I'm the lead vocalist with 'The It Girls' & we travel all over the world performing, i'm having such a wonderful time!

I wasn't able to go away to dance college, the funds just weren't there, so I had to do things the hard way. I moved to London on a wing & a prayer & just went for every single open audition going. It was really tough but when you're that passionate about your dreams, nothing will dissuade you. It paid off & my first big gig was a UK tour of West Side Story understudying Anita! I was worried that I'd be really behind & would've missed out on so much not going to dance college, but I soon realized that Harlequin had put me in such good stead that I was actually ahead of the game most of the time! People have always commented on my professionalism & dedication to my job & the manner in which I treat everyone that I work with. All my lessons learnt were from Miss Paula & the Harlequin team. I will never be able to thank Paula enough for all that she did for me. She really helped me to spread my wings & fly.

To teach is to touch a life forever & Paula has done so much for so, so many children. I know how much she cares for each & every one of her pupils. Miss P pours her heart & soul into all that she does for the school. It is her life.

I did a lot of teaching & choreography for Paula in my last few years at the school, I LOVED it! It was very hard to leave when I was 18, I very nearly stayed & became a full time teacher, but I knew that there was a dream that I just had to follow. But the door is always open & I am always going back to visit & help out when I can. I keep in touch with all the kids that I taught & am available to offer all my advise & knowledge to anyone who would ever need my help. Paula is one of my most treasured friends & her family are very, very precious to me. I just simply can't praise the school enough & it deservedly stands alone in its greatness. To be a part of it is to be a part of something truly wonderful.

Shaun Smith
Since leaving Harlequin at 18 i went onto train at London Studio Centre and Graduated in 2008. I went on to join the UK Tour of 'West Side Story' for 12 months, and on my return to london i began to concentrate on the more commercial side of the industry. I Appeared in Cheryl Cole's music video '3 Words' and worked on various commercials including the advertisement for Got to Dance Starring Davina Mccall. In the Last year or so i have been backing dancing for various UK and American artists such as Justin Beiber, Katy Perry, JLS, Cheryl Cole, Professor Green, Cher Lloyd and have been involved in dancing on X Factor finals 2010. In the Summer of 2010 I joined the company 'ZooNation' for their summer run of 'Into The Hoods' at the Royal Festival Hall, and since then have been cast in their new upcoming show 'Some Like It Hip Hop' as the character 'Sudsy Partridge'. I also appeared in the Peacock Theatre run of 'Shoes the Musical' which was choreographed by Stephen Mear.

Harlequin is a very special school with some amazing teachers. I was first introduced to the school by edward around the age of 16 which was when i began my ballet training. The talent there is overwhelming but is accompanied with a warm friendly feel, with incredible training. I personally learnt a great deal in my short time at Harlequin, and feel it gave me best training i could have asked for before heading down to London.  I always love coming back to teach at Harlequin, the students are always a pleasure to work with and the standard just gets higher each time i return. This is of course a major credit to Miss Paula, achieving so much in all her years of running the school, and for being such a huge inspiration for all her previous students, and i'm sure the many more talented youngsters who are coming up through the ranks.
